Phase 1 (Windows Only): Jailbreak and Activation of the iPhone
Step 2: Install SimFree.app on your iPhone
As a quick reference, the purpose of the Jailbreak is for the application to access the iPhone internal filesystem and allow you to install files or applications into the iPhone. The Activation procedure simply mimics the iTunes activation process to enable the use of a SIM card.
1.Download SimFree if you have not down so yet and extract it on your desktop. Keep in mind that this is an iPhone application. So please do not try to run it on your computer.
2.Activate your iPhone using wInstaller: open the wInstaller folder that you previously unzipped and launch wiNstallerGUI.exe.
3.On the wiNstaller window click Activate. This should activate your iPhone and give you access to the iPhone main screen.
4.Once the activation is successful please click Jaibreak.
5.After the jailbreak process is successful please click Install Application. A window will pop up asking you to Choose an iPhone app. Locate and select the extrated SimFree folder that you previously downloaded.
6.Once the installation is successful please verify that the SimFree icon appears on your iPhone’s main screen.
You are now ready to move to PHASE 2 to unlock your iPhone.
Option 2: Install SimFree.app via AppTapp Installer
Here is how to get SimFree.app on to your iPhone by using AppTapp Installer.
1. Download and run AppTapp from http://iphone.nullriver.com/ (both Windows and Mac versions available)
2. Run Installer.app from your iPhone and select to install "Community Sources" from the list
3. Open Mobile Safari from your iPhone and go to http://tinyurl.com/2uj9mc
4. You will get a notice asking you to add the iPhoneSimFree repository to your Installer. Just accept and Installer will open. Click "refresh" and you will now have SimFree.app in the * iPhoneSimFree * on the top in Installer
Thats it! You are now ready to move to PHASE 2 to unlock your iPhone.
Step 1: Downgrade your iPhone to version 1.0.2
NOTE: This guide does not guarantee it will work 100%. Also errors are expected at the end of the process. Continue reading to understand.
1. Download the 1.0.2 firmware from Apple.
2. If the downloaded file has the extension ".zip", please remove it and modify it to end up with the following filename: iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw
3.Turn off the automatic update from iTunes. From iTunes, choose ‘Edit > Preferences’, uncheck automatic update.
4.Reboot your iPhone holding the top (power) and home buttons BUT release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark). The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes (latest version worked for me on the Mac)
5.Restore your iPhone by pressing and holding the ‘Shift’ key, then click ‘restore’ to select the file you copied in Step 2 OR that you downloaded earlier.
6. The phone will restart and error out at the end, this is expected. Once iTunes has recognized the iPhone, Shutdown iTunes and use PACAY or wInstaller to reactivate your iPhone . If the phone remains in recovery mode with the yellow triangle, open the wInstaller folder after unzipping it and launch wiNstallerGUI.exe and it should kick the phone out of that mode.
